No Country For These Men

The Galaxy of events that surround our countries “7 sisters” along with regions of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand & Orissa are inceptions towards a civil war wherein the gladiatorial Adivasis take on the constitutional “abiding” Government. Here we have the poorest, most malnourished “people” waging a war against what in our history book was referred as the “people’s rule”. The year has witnessed Naxalism as being the burning topic within the corridors of our Home Minister’s chamber. The sketch up till now puts “our” Government on one side, the Maoists on the other & “our” civil society activists in the middle. With Arundhati Roy advocating for the Maoists on International podiums & Mr.Chidambaram urging the extremists to abjure violence, a healthy bargain seems to be a tough proposition.

The genesis of this conflict can be traced back to the emergence of communist movement in India. The formation of CPI-Maoists led to the mobilization of  tribals from Remote Villages of West Bengal such as Naxalbari (coining the term Naxalites). Annihilation of the Landlord Class & strict military formation were the precursors of the entire rebellion. The region of Naxal militant activity came to be known as the Red Corridor. The entire CPI-Maoists regime were a messiah to the hundreds of unheard cries who had lost their lands to the Zamindar’s through title deed riddles. Demanding stiff reformation in such Remote Villages, the CPI-Maoists were harbingers to the upheavals that would result when MOUs were signed by the Jindals,Tatas,Birlas to extract unexploited minerals from the “Red Corridor”.
The seeds of enmity which got sowed from now led to phases of genocides on both sides of the fence. In a meticulous plan, the Naxals of  Chattisgarh ambushed  & killed  75 CRPF soldiers, a mastermind of a plan which goes down as amongst the deadliest of acts amidst the insurgencies. Killing 75 CRPF soldiers was a heinous display of barbarism & pomp by the Maoists & taints every single iota of  the Tribal development. The other side of the coin bears similar episodes drenched in blood. Contemptuous atrocities inflicted upon the petty peasantry during such rebellious uprising. Taking advantage of such acts Maoists leaders probes the minds of the innocent tribals  & thus a Maoist is born. The government appeals for a ceasefire from the Maoists but itself pours down new army formations within the “Red Corridor”. ”Mujhe ek CRPF jawan maarne ka 500 rs milta hai in logon se….ghar pe bachon ko khilana hai….hamein aur  kuch nhi pata”,says Kashi Naxal throwing  light on how the Maoists leaders are prejudicing the minds of  the innocent  peasants. Arundhati Roy said in a meeting”

The question we need to ask the Indian Government is that Can they leave the bauxite in the  mountains ? “.In some spheres Ms Roy blatantly asks, Is the Indian Republic run by a democratic governance or a corporate enterprise? The Naxal prone area has significant resources - in particular large unexploited mineral, forestry and potential hydroelectric generation capacity. Orissa for example
"...has 60 percent of India’s bauxite reserves, 25 percent of coal, 28 percent of iron ore, 92 percent of nickel and 28 percent of manganese reserves....”.

What the government calls Maoists corridor, is in fact MoU-ist corridor. You have an MoU on every mountain, river...MoUs signed by biggest corporations in the world who are waiting to gain hold of the resources.Such a pursuit of economic totalitarianism can only have effective results when these MOUs are made public & the  tribals get a clear idea of rehabilation programme by having  people at public forums discuss these issues and take up opinion of those present at the Ground Zero level. The Media should  rise above the biasness & appeasment policy & broadcast transparent coverage of the events at the Ground Zero.It can aid in making the 2 ends meet through better communcation between the confronts.

The Government on the other side tries to increase the Human Development Index (HDI) through development in these areas, but when they build roads the Naxals blow them up, when schools are built the Naxals blow them up, they mine everything and they do not allow development to take place. One violence does not justify others,Be it a Naxal or a CRPF or a Innocent person ultimately more than 900 people are killed in 7 months due to this issue. Thus,  violence which stalks this region may never let development enter its premises.

Events such as Bhopal Gas Tragedy,Narmada Issue have mocked at our countries judicial  machinery & tainted its authencity. If given similar treatment the complex issue will soon turn into a civil war .The point that needs to be understood by the government is that in fuelling the indusrites with bauxite they should not set the hearts of thousands ablaze & on the other hand the maoists should reach out to the Government not in a spirit of confrontation but in the hope to reach out to a solution..

My Guardian Angel

Relaxing on the Sofa, relishing the taste of my favourite “bun-tikki’s” & enjoying the semifinal of IPL with my father,I gazed at DRDO’s yearly calender, the bottomline of which says,”HOME SWEET HOME”. For the next 3 days ,their was No waking up early in order to grab the last piece of stale brown bread from the mess, No “dynamics of machines” interfering with the daily dynamics of my life & escaping the scorching heat of Patiala. Luxuriate in using high speed internet & in my Dad’s Sony cybershot which always sparked the photographer in me, made me a busy person even on holidays. My mother, who gives me a “‘V’VIP” stature during such visits, was engrossed in preparing the necessary “masala’s” for tomorrow’s South Indian breakfast—(presumed to be a surprise by her but thanks to my father who likes to disclose every such surprises my mom wishes to keep). Everything was going hunky-dory just like any other day just when..…...

It was my maternal uncle’s phone call who broke the news to my father that my grandmother was dead. The demise of my granny came as a shock for every member of my family, grief stricken faces of everyone around made me recall all the time I had spent with my “Nanni ji”. The ecstasy in her eyes when she opened the doors of her House in Delhi evanesce every iota of fatigue of our journey. My Mother had lost her “guardian angel” & seeing her dissolving in tears made it hard to console her. The series of phone calls & the weeping acoustics that followed made me feel nostalgic. Times of me & granny having hours of conversations flashed in my memory. Till date, I treasure the collections of old & post independence coins which she gifted me.”Nanni ji” used to take joy in showing me black & white photographs of Grandpa & satisfied my inquisitiveness by answering every single question I asked her about the former days. Asking about my mom’s childhood days was the fun part, which gave me enough opportunities to blackmail my mother later at home. My Birthday was never complete till a “Janamdin Mubarak” call came from my Grandma. Spending here life at Delhi she was a witness to the series of changes which took place in the city, the nearby super-market shop owners greeted her & people in the locality seeked her advice & respected the generosity of this old but young at heart lady. She never liked asking for help but was always ready to lend a helping hand to others. An embodiment of a devoted wife, an adorable mother & an affectionate grandmother.

True, the next time I visit my “nanni ji’s” house in Delhi the “ecstasy” which welcomed me would be absent.Agreed that Death might be a reality of Life still Love overpowers it & today as I sit down writing this post I sense the presence of my “guardian angel” waiting for yet another conversation to begin…....

"2010 - 1950 = 60"

(Hey ”chimerian” (even if you are not on that chimerian/follower list :P),you could be Aadiya , Ahmad or Anthony, but let that not cease an Indian within you from pondering over the names of Capt. Anuj Nayyar, 17 JAT, Lt. Vikram Batra, 13 JAK Rifles & Captain Bhairav Singh who lost their lives when Indian troops kissed victory during 65,71 & kargil,02.Lend a moment to pay homage to the 23 year old Sikh, Bhagat Singh & his colleagues, who valiantly walked up to the gallows so that the posterity can breathe in open air. Dive into that inner “Indian heart” you bear & listen if it resonates with the cords of Patriotism or the fervor of "Unity in Diversity”. Does it?)

Res publica(Latin) or Republic is a form of governance where the head of state is not a “Monarch” & the people have an impact on the goverment.26th January 1929,Lahore Session presided by Congressman, Jawaharlal Nehru, announced the day to be observed as the “Poorna Swaraj Divas” & that very reason instigated the founding father’s of Republic India to adopt India’s Constitution on 26th Jan 1950, 2 months later when it was passed on 26th Nov 1949.

The Indian Republic is ready to celebrate its 61st Republic Day with jubiliance, zeal, scintillating shows & fascinating tableaux. This hallowed occasion was a harbinger of gratification for Jasuben , Hemant Mahajan, Francis, Mehrat Ali & other freedom fighter’s. Still Republic Day, does brings peace to Tanuja,a college going student, as she get’s a bonus holiday in the name of a “national holiday”. True, such national “festivals” are reduced only as holidays for not just Tanuja, but for more than a majority of the population. 60 years into the life of being a Socialist, Secular & a Democratic country, seems to have diluted the “Indian within every Indian”. It appears that the act of breast-beating on every issue without taking pragmatic steps to solve the problem, has made us traitors to our motherland. The sight of a “Babu” counting soiled 100 rupees notes with his office walls studded with photos of Gandhi,Lal Bahadur Shastri & Pandit Nehru. Living democracy through official stamps, photo frames or statues is splintering Republic India. The disparity between different religious groups still shows adherence to the “Divide & Rule” theory the Britishers devised to rule India .Fundametal religious ideologies & social dogmas are maneuvered for personal benefits by unscrupulous political groups. Ayodha’s “ Ram Janambhoomi” & the 2002 Godhra anti-communal riots were platforms where man’s insatiable greed & communal hatred was mobilized by a group of desperado’s to deter India’s peace & tranquility. The “Mai-Baap” form of governance is another added module of Democracy, where political groups turn into contemporary “Mafia’s” siphoning money from the common public treasures into their private Swiss accounts & later lament on India’s poor state of affairs. With 15 percent of the 150 tainted member’s of the Lok Sabha accused of committing murder, are we really exercising the power to vote? .The ballot paper is the only solution to purge democracy tunnels & initiate the “people’s rule”. Conferring atrocities upon immigrants of another state by the natives of that state & calling them “unwanted lots” is the “Unity in Diversity” we boast of !!! Incidents that happened in Mumbai against Biharis was a condemnable act & was no less than a nightmare. Do we require a “maseeha” to stop us from yet another partition? .The memories of ’47 Partition still vests in the minds of the 2 main communities of our country. The early we realize that being strong from within can only bring social reforms in the country, the better it is for our country.

Becoming a contemporary Gandhi might prove a tough row to hoe for many, but sabotaging every single Gandhian ideology will dilapidate the pillars of the India’s success. The remedy to scrutinize the Law enforcement agencies is by proper awareness of the Law’s itself..Right to Information Act 2005 mandates timely response to citizen requests for government information. It is a vital tool in the hands of every Indian & can combat corruption on a large scale. Either we accommodate Corruption as another pillar of democracy or nip it in the bud .The cosmopolitan lanes has to alter its sense of righteousness so that that contemporary patriotism can get embarked. It’s your time to be the David against the diverse Goliath’s plundering our nation progress. Inculcating national outlook over regional outlook amongst the younger generation can flourish traffic through many deserted areas. Let us show the world what India was really envisaged by those who made it Republic .

“Koi bhi desh perfect nahi hota, use perfect banana padta hai.
Police mein bharti honge, military join karenge. IAS ban kar is desh ki sarkar chalaenge.
Ye desh badlega, hum badlenge isse.”
……Remember who said it!!!!!!!!

Wishing every “chimerian” a very Happy Republic Day.

(Our Swades is waiting for more "Mohan's" to return !!!!!!!.......)

Be a true “chimerian”…..

Fantasy, Imagery or a figment of Imagination not only convey the literal meaning of the word chimera but personify the basic connotations attached with CHIMERA. Imagining the inconsequential aspects around your environment to surpass human limits, aided us to reach the peak’s of eminence & accomplishments. Pursuing the chimera to ascend upwards & touch the pinnacles of achievements which sanctioned us to come out of our comfort zone to manifest our rational outlook.

True, procrastination or daydreaming are condemnable acts as they handicap your ability of productive imagination and jeopardize a being’s innovational faculties. Beware of delusive or misleading hope as they can give way to profligate paths which offer dead ends to societal refinement. If our chimera was curtailed then events such as the INDUSTRIAL, RUSSIAN, and FRENCH REVOLUTION would never have been witnessed. All such pivotal events were a result of the chimera” of men, societies & countries. From the first measurement of time to the advent of nanotechnology, From inventing the door-bell to creating the cloned cell we have been successful in the quest which started with our very own chimera.

Creating an alliance between our chimeraand productive hard work holds the key to get crowned with success. So live a life in which the quest to reach your chimera is primary, in which your eyes should speak volumes of yourchimera you possess.

Be a true chimerian”…..
